Macqueripe Trail - Abandoned Radar Station - Part 1

Macqueripe Trail - Road to Abandon Radar Station

In my last blog post I shared my experience at Macqueripe Beach, but what I didn't mention is that before I went to Macqueripe Beach, the crew and I went up the trail to the Radar Station located at the very top of the road with the Bamboo Cathedral.

So... before I talk about the Radar Station itself, let me recite to you our experience on the trail on our way up to the station. This was definitely a first for the crew and I. None of us have ever been on this trail before, not even to the Bamboo Cathedral..... I know you're probably wondering where we're from.... LOL.

Anyway, we all met at the bottom of the trail for 7:30am to get somewhat of an early start as we had no idea how long it would take us to and from our the Radar Station. Our mission on this trip was to photograph our entire experience from start to finish, so we grabbed our our vital supplies, water and of course our cameras and started our course up hill.

We're not your "Average Joes" .....LOL

So the "average Joe" would have probably made it up and back in approximately 45 to 60 mins, but nope... we're not your "average Joes". It took us approximately 2 hours to and from, and no it's not because we were walking slow...LOL, we just wanted to capture everything we possibly can with our cameras, and boy did we.

We took pictures of the trees, the road, other paths off the trails... basically we photographed anything worth photographing.

We won't brave enough to venture of the original trail to see where any other paths lead... Actually we did make an attempt at one, which, at a couple feet along got very creepy, very fast so we turned around and got back on our initial path. After all it wasn't an episode of Dora the Explorer or Diego... LOL.

There were monkeys in the trees...

Walking along the path we could hear the howling of monkeys which seem to come from every where, until they decided to show their faces. Now I have to tell you, if I was walking along this road by myself I would have been so afraid, because the sounds of those monkeys howling were very scary... made it seem like a scene from a horror movie, right before that scary looking mutated monster jumped out to chase you down a lonely path.... LOL

Well the results of the howling were not scary at all. Keeping their distance in the trees about 6 to 7 monkeys were having fun laying and jumping from branch to branch right above our heads.

Does the bamboo sing?

The Bamboo Cathedral...

I've heard about the Bamboo Cathedral's beauty but seeing it for myself was spectacular. Now I see why photographers love to take pictures here, it's like "photography porn" ....LOL.

As the wind blew and the bamboo moved it made weird noises that sounded as though it was attempting to sing... Nature is wonderful.

We had fun...
